Born into the arms of her Tibetan grandmother who was a spiritual master, Yuan Miao grew up in China exposed to two different worlds – a mundane environment dominated by worldly pursuits, and a hidden spiritual world filled with wisdom and compassion. Yuan Miao’s hidden spiritual background was catapulted into the forefront when her only daughter died of leukemia, and she had to reckon the reality of life and death, of joy and sorrow.

After a long period of devastation and hopelessness, Miao awakened to a deep and profound joy that beckoned to be shared. Thereafter, she traveled from China to the West to begin the work of creating the New Century Foundation. Using her gifts as a film-maker, yoga practioner, and mantric vocalist, and most importantly to her, a caring friend, she devotes her life to sharing joy and peace through spiritual cultivation and balanced living.
