Yuan Miao performs mystical and unique mantric singing that takes you on a journey of the heart. Her vibrant voice creates a magical atmosphere of transcendent joy. Miao draws from her spiritual training in ancient mantric voice practices, as learned from her Tibetan grandmother, a recognized spiritual master. Every performance by Yuan Miao is spontaneous --- at times powerful, at times serene and always profound and beautiful.

The Phoenix is a mythical bird that flew into a fire -

burning itself to ashes and rose from ashes to live again.

Many cultures from the East and West speak of the phoenix, a legendary bird that rises from its own ashes. Like the phoenix, each human being is capable of rising above the pain of their own personal suffering and experiencing a joy that knows no bounds. The experience of this transcendental reality of pure joy is possible for
each of us and, in fact, constantly beckons us homeward.

Phoenix Rising is a powerful and transformational concert series that feature the mantric  voice of NCF founder, Yuan Miao and the support of world class musicians.

Through the radiant heart of a very spiritual, talented and accomplished young woman from China comes a new voice to heal the collective suffering of humankind. Taught the powers of mantras by her Tibetan grandmother, a spiritual master, growing up in Mainland China during the Cultural Revolution, Yuan Miao had two very different lives; a secret life and a public life. In her secret life, she was trained from infancy by her enlightened Tibetan grandmother whose father was a high Tibetan Buddhist Rinpoche.

In her public life, Yuan Miao achieved great material success as a director of television documentaries. Her shows on environmental and cultural issues ran in prime time on the most prestigious channel in the largest country in the world. With that success came fame, a handsome husband and a level of affluence that most people only dream of. Most precious of all was her lovely daughter – a perfect child, beautiful and intelligent. The arrival of her daughter made her life wonderful and deeply rich. One day that suddenly changed when a doctor spoke the words, “Your daughter has leukemia.” When her young daughter died, Yuan Miao was plunged into the deepest despair. Suddenly, all the worldly gifts that she had received could not shield her from the worst kind of suffering imaginable; a mother’s loss of her only beloved child. Yuan Miao’s life was shaken to its foundation. She lost her faith, her hope and even the desire to live. After several failed attempts at suicide, Yuan Miao’s strong spiritual background showed her the way to transform suffering into joy. She discovered the meaning of life; that spiritual cultivation is not a refuge but a form of service to others.

In her passage through despair, forged in the fire of her intense suffering, the realization of the unlimited reservoir of joy awakened within her and she received a wonderful gift – the ability to share that infinite joy with others through her voice.

Sound vibration is one of the “original healers”,  this vibrational event is a beautiful mixture of sights and Tibetant mantric sound that is joyous to the heart and uplifting to the soul.

Yuan Miao’s voice flows like a divine river, floats like a cloud and encompasses one like the vast blue Tibetan sky. It can soar like a bird and penetrate one’s soul with its undeniable urgency and magical healing power. Yuan Miao is not a trained singer and she does not sing songs. The sublime sounds that emerge spontaneously from within her are, for the most part, of no known language and yet they speak a universal language - enlivening within us the memory of our innermost wellspring of wisdom and joy.

Yuan Miao does not consider herself to be a spiritual teacher but rather a transmitter of joy. Although her spiritual roots are in Tibetan Buddhism, Yuan Miao’s approach is not Tibetan Buddhist but rather a universal wisdom that embraces people of all faiths as well as those who are not religious. Many people, after hearing Yuan Miao’s vocal sounds, report profound transformative and healing experiences. Some experience dramatic physical, emotional and spiritual healing. She offers these gifts to all in the hope of reminding people of the essential value of life and awakening within them the awareness of their own unlimited inner nature.
